Elgin “LGN” Ford Jr.

A native of Lithonia, Georgia, a small town in Metro Atlanta, LGN showed musical prowess very early on in his youth vocally and even learned to play trumpet & euphonium in grade school. He had opportunities to pursue playing trumpet in college, but instead pursued his degree in Political Science and Economics at Drexel University in Philadelphia. There, he was also a member for the Men’s Varsity Basketball Team.

A self-taught vocalist, LGN developed his voice simply by mimicking artists his parents introduced him to ––the likes of Jackie Wilson, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and Terrance Trent Darby to name a few. While in graduate school at Cornell University, he met eventual lifelong friends who convinced him to try and write and record original music in his spare time. After graduation, he moved to DC to moonlight as a Strategy Consultant during the day whilst still fueling the artistic fire in his spare time.

Eventually, COVID and his relationship brought him back to Ithaca, where he began recording his first EP. Perfectly entitled “What Am I Doing?”,  LGN traveled between NYC and Syracuse to record and executively produce this Nov 2021 release; listen here.

LGN’s sound is very unique with a combination of deep-cutting bars, beautiful melodies and harmonies, and a pinch of reality. You can hear his contemporary influences (Drake, J. Cole, Bryson Tiller, Brent Faiyaz) and a host of others in each line and note; he’s soon to be an influence on others soon enough.
